1975 Westmere Original, born and raised.

Having lived in London for the last 20 years as a Transport Engineer, I am now back in the place where I belong, Westmere.

Now that I am back, I have an opportunity to do the two things I love the most, helping people and fitness.

So with that, I would like to welcome you all to JayFit Westmere. Your local Exercise Professional here to help you stay fit, healthy and happy.

I have always loved helping people. Assisting someone to achieve a task has always filled me with great satisfaction.

The same passion also extends to health, sports, fitness and general well-being. As a child growing up, from Westmere Primary through to High School, I played every  school sport on offer.

I was also part of the Grey Lynn Soccer Club and Grafton Cricket Club from the early 1980’s.

Every school holidays, all my Westmere friends and I would play cricket and rugby at the local school grounds and Coxs Bay Reserve. We would cycle and climb rocks at Western Springs Reserve (The Duck Pond as I know it) and enjoy the many outdoor activities that were on offer locally. We took advantage of all the fun things to do in Westmere.

However, even with such an active lifestyle, I was a very skinny teenager. At 18 years of age I was 5.11ft (180cm) tall and only weighed 65kg. I was paper thin. And in the early 1990's, bullying at High School was rife. Not only was I physically inferior to my school mates, I was getting a mental beating as well, because I was thin.

It was at this point where I realised I had a choice. I could either live with this or I could do something about it. I chose to do something about it and have never looked back! I started to work out by doing body weight exercises and joined a small local gym. I was mindful of my nutrition and started to eat real food that would help me achieve my goals. I gained an understanding of how my body worked and by the time I was 21 years old, I was 85kg of healthy weight. The feeling was amazing.

This is the beautiful thing about our bodies. We can actually make positive changes for positive outcomes.  If you want to make positive changes about the way you look and how you feel, no matter what age you are, through sustainable and achievable lifestyle choices, you can also fulfil your goals and feel awesome.

Now at the young age of 45 years old, I find that regular exercise keeps my body in tune, and also keeps my mental health in great shape too. When you get to our age and above, we have lived and experienced both ups and downs. For me in down moments, exercise and lifting weights is my outlet and gives me my equilibrium back.

Now as a qualified and certified professional I am here with JayFit. Wanting to help you achieve your health, fitness and well-being goals for a better happier lifestyle.
